hello

Traveling can be a lot of fun, but it can also be expensive and time-consuming. To help you make the most of your next trip, here are some money saving hacks that can save you money, time, and hassle on your travels.

Incognito

Use a search engine to find the best deals on flights and hotels, but make sure to use incognito mode to avoid the issue of dynamic pricing. In incognito mode, the website won’t track your browsing history and cookies, which can prevent them from raising prices based on your search history. I have seen the the difference from using vs not using incognito mode be up to $1000 difference for a round trip flight for two people.

Email Alerts

Sign up for email alerts from your favorite airlines and hotels. Many companies will send you notifications about sales and special deals, which can help you save money on your next trip.

Pack Light

Pack light to avoid paying extra baggage fees. Most airlines charge extra for checked bags, so try to fit everything into a carry-on. My favorite is a backpack that opens like a suitcase has a camera cube.

Rewards

Use a rewards credit card to earn points or miles for your travel expenses. Many credit cards offer rewards that can be redeemed for flights, hotels, and other travel-related expenses. I was able to purchase 2 round trip flights from the US to Costa Rica for $13USD by using points.

Travel in the off season

Plan your trip during the off-season. Many destinations are less crowded and cheaper during the shoulder season, which is the period between the peak and off-season. Check out my post about the rainy season in Costa Rica.

VPN

Use a VPN to access blocked websites and apps. If you’re traveling abroad, you may not be able to access certain websites and apps due to geo-restrictions. A VPN can help you bypass these restrictions and access the content you need.

App Rewards

Use a travel-rewards app to earn points and rewards for your travel expenses. Many travel-related apps, such as Bookings.com, offer rewards for booking travel through their app.

Budget

Use a budgeting app to track your expenses. Keeping track of your expenses can help you stay within your budget and avoid overspending.

By following these travel hacks and tips, you can save money, time, and hassle on your next trip. Let me know of some hacks and tips that you have found helpful. Happy traveling!
