Bali has a way of leaving an imprint on the heart, ensuring that this farewell is only a ‘see you later.’
Essential Travel Tips for Bali
1. Respect the Local Culture
Bali is deeply rooted in tradition and spirituality. When visiting temples, wear appropriate clothing—cover your shoulders and knees—and be mindful of local customs. It’s common to see daily offerings (canang sari) placed on the ground; step around them as a sign of respect.
2. Stay Hydrated & Watch What You Eat
The tropical heat can be intense, so drink plenty of bottled or filtered water. Be cautious with street food and raw vegetables to avoid an upset stomach. Bali is famous for its fresh fruit and smoothie bowls—just ensure they’re made with clean water and ice.
3. Avoid Travelers Belly
Commonly referred to as “Bali Belly,” digestive issues can strike unsuspecting travelers. To minimize the risk, drink bottled water, avoid ice from unknown sources, and eat at reputable restaurants. Carry activated charcoal or electrolytes in case you experience any stomach discomfort.
4. Transportation Tips
Traffic in Bali can be hectic, especially in popular areas like Seminyak and Ubud. Renting a scooter is a great way to explore, but only if you’re comfortable riding one. Alternatively, use ride-hailing apps like Gojek or Grab for safe and affordable transportation.
5. Money & Bargaining
Cash is king in many areas, so always carry small denominations of Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Bargaining is common in markets but do so respectfully—start at about half the asking price and negotiate from there.
6. Be Eco-Conscious
Bali has been making strides in reducing plastic waste. Bring a reusable water bottle, say no to plastic bags, and opt for reef-safe sunscreen to protect marine life.
